THE WAYFARERS INVITES GUESTS TO WALK DARTMOOR AND EXMOOR WITH NOTED TRAVEL WRITER EVERETT POTTER
Trip also features visit to newly opened Greenway, home of Agatha Christie, and a pre-Walk custom fitness program designed by Fit for Trips

Newport, Rhode Island, April 2010 – Wayfarers' travelers are invited to Southwest England this fall for an eight-day/seven-night exploration of the beauty and romance of Dartmoor and Exmoor in Devon County. The trip, scheduled from September 26 - October 3, will be led by travel writer Everett Potter. Noted for his witty observations over a multi-decade career in travel writing, Potter will add his own special knowledge of the area’s history to the insights of the Wayfarers' Walk leaders. The eight-day all-inclusive Walk is priced at $3,795 per person, based on double occupancy, and includes accommodations, meals and trail snacks, wine with dinner, entrance fees, guides, van transport for moving luggage and resting walkers, all taxes and gratuities at hotels and restaurants, and more.

This year's itinerary adds an exciting pre-Walk enhancement, a fitness program to prepare Walkers for hiking the glorious English hills. Participants start their adventure in the ancient harbor of Dartmouth before exploring the open spaces of Dartmoor and Exmoor, setting for Sherlock Holmes’s adventures in "The Hound of the Baskervilles." Among the stopping points are the historical market town of Totnes; Widecombe-in-the-Moor, home to the famous 15th-century church; and Castle Drogo, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and said to be the last castle built in England. Walkers trek along the former communication route of the Viking raiders aside the River Barle and through Varle Hill where native ponies run through open moors. Other highlights include views of Bristol Channel, the Dart Valley and Welsh Mountains amidst scenery dotted with thatched hamlets and farms. Along with gracious dinners and convivial breakfasts, the Wayfarers also include lunch in traditional pubs and local treats like Devon cream tea.
