Visit Finland

Finland appeals to travelers with offerings ranging from design and architecture to outdoor activities, saunas, golf, cuisine, and cultural and "wacky" festivals. Popular destinations within the country include Lapland above the Arctic Circle; Pori for its renowned jazz festival; Savonlinna and its world-class opera festival and lakes; and Suomenlinna Fortress Island and Old Rauma, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The medieval city of Turku will be Europe's Culture Capital in 2011. Helsinki, "Europe's Design Capital," has a new Design District, a shopper's mecca for things vintage, contemporary and uniquely Finnish. The area reflects Finland's high-profile image in international design with such well-known names as Artek, iittala, Marimekko and Kalevala jewelry and also encompasses art galleries, studios, interior-decorating shops, clothing boutiques, restaurants and museums. Among recent hotel developments in Helsinki, Hotel Haven is the city's first boutique property, Hotel Glo adds a design-forward option next to the luxury Hotel Kamp, and the new One-Room Hotel adds a completely different concept of comfort. Helsinki is a rising star on the European culinary scene with more than 800 restaurants and several Michelin–starred options.
