ROSEWOOD LITTLE DIX BAY, Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands
Originally conceived and developed by Laurance Rockefeller, Little Dix Bay is one of the "grand ladies" of the Caribbean. The recipient of a $25 million upgrade over the past three year, the timeless resort sits on 500 acres, blending seamlessly with the island setting, lush foliage and gardens. A private half–mile crescent–shaped beach, a barrier reef for snorkeling just off the shore, and beautiful walking trails are offered to guests only. Arrival is by the resort's own boat or by air taxi. Accommodations include junior suites; two–, three– and four–bedroom villas; and cottages, some with outdoor rain showers. Overseen by the resort's new chef Marcel Driessen, three dining venues specialize in Caribbean and Asian cuisine. On–the–beach romantic dinners are also offered. Sense Spa at Little Dix Bay, offering an indigenous spa experience, made its debut in April 2008, set cliffside with nine treatment cottages, all with windows overlooking the water; a couple's indoor/outdoor spa suite, bi–level infinity pool, outdoor yoga and meditation, and private beach. Botanicals and ingredients grown at the resort and on–island are incorporated into treatments. The 100–room resort's Children's Grove program, watersports, beach drops, fitness center, and grass and clay tennis courts are complimentary.
